With only 27 days left in the school year, it is time to display the word cloud banner with names of all our 8th grade students. Each year I see groups of students gathered around determined to find their name. I hear our students in 6th and 7th grade talking about how much they will miss these 8th graders. Teachers give hugs to students who will be leaving us and help to reminisce about the good times here at WJMS. We are proud of your accomplishments and we celebrate your advancement to a new chapter in your lives. Congratulations WJMS class of 2016….you will be missed!classof2016

boardWith school back in full swing, it was time to change our back to school bulletin board with something more current. With Instagram favored by teens over Facebook and Twitter as their most important social networking tool, it was the perfect choice for our theme. Visiting classrooms around the school allowed me to take pictures of students and faculty going about the daily life of school here at WJMS. I created wjmsknights as our faux Instagram account and added applicable hashtags to go with the images. Inserting each image into an Instagram template found online, made them look much more authentic. I also included some infographics found online which show how powerful Instagram can be as a tool for social networking. Since the kids have seen me around the building taking pictures, they have been drawn to the new board to see which images I posted. I plan to keep this board up through the spring while changing out the pictures of WJMS events throughout the year.

We’ve just completed our most current bulletin board outside the media center and I’ve already heard kids singing with our revised lyrics to Carly Rae Jepsen’s popular song. We had a lot of fun creating the giant-sized notebook paper. It was a challenge to create though! I’ve posted a sign asking for student doodle artwork to add to the board so please get to working on those doodles! Bring them by the media center so I can add them for you.

The Hunger Games movie premier is this Friday, the 23rd. The kids are all talking about it so I felt this would be the perfect theme for celebrating National School Library Month(April). We finally finished the bulletin board today and I think it looks awesome! I can’t wait to see what the kids think tomorrow. More activities are in the works including our school’s 1st annual Hunger Games, a mini bow and arrow shooting contest, Hunger Games t-shirts, and a contest with the three book set and Mockingjay pin as prizes. More details coming soon. May the odds be ever in your favor! 🙂

We also did the huge picture window in the office with the movie premier posters. We will be using these as prizes in our upcoming contest. The parachutes were such fun!
