The third book in the series, Crossbones brings a whole different light to the friendship of Ryan and Sarah and the mysteries of Skeleton Creek. Sarah and her family move across the country and she is forced to travel the U.S. in search of answers to who exactly The Crossbones are.  Ryan’s dad uses the money they gained discovering gold in the “haunted” dredge to open a fly fishing shop, of which Ryan is forced to help run.  So, once again, Ryan finds himself stuck at home while Sarah gets to seek adventure (and danger) following the clues left behind in the dredge.

skeletoncreekcoverThere are two sides to this story – one is written, the other is on video. Something mysterious is happening in Skeleton Creek.  Something scary.  Something sinister. Ryan came close to it… and nearly died.  Now he’s trapped in his house.  He can’t trust anyone – not even himself.  He is forbidden from seeing his best friend, Sarah.  So while Ryan is isolated and alone, she plunges back into the mystery, putting her life on the line to get to the truth. Ryan is desperately trying to write down the full story.  And while he does, Sarah takes videos of what she finds, then sends him the links so he can watch. Together, they discover that the past is dangerous.  The present is haunted.  And the future is deadly.

Welcome to Skeleton Creek.  Read it. Watch it. Live it.  http://www.scholastic.com/skeletoncreek

In a new, groundbreaking format, the story is broken into two parts — Ryan’s text in the book, and Sarah’s videos on a special website, with links and passwords given throughout the book.

In celebration of National Library Month, the media center has a few activities going on to encourage students to visit. We have a contest in which students could win a free book. Faculty members were polled to find out their favorite children’s book. Students have to match the books to the correct faculty member. The person with the most correct answers wins a copy of Ripley’s Believe It or Not 2010. Entry forms can be found in the pocket on the bulletin board outside the media center. Book club members have assisted with creating Wordles on their favorite book. Many of these are on the bulletin board.  Check them out and see if you can guess the book they are describing. Best-selling author, Patrick Carman will be visiting via virtual chat. He is the author of Skeleton Creek, Ghost in the Machine, The Land of Elyon series, and Black Circle, the fifth book in the 39 Clues series. Details are coming soon. In addition, all during the month book trailers will be featured on the morning news program. Book club member also helped with a PSA about National Library Month.
