About

I have the best job ever! I am able to share my love of books and share the constant evolution in the field of technology with middle school students and faculty. It just doesn’t get any better that that. This is my 20th year at WJMS and the years have flown by. In addition to certification as a media specialist, I hold a BS degree, a MS degree, and an EdS degree in middle grades education from Georgia Southern University.

I am originally from Millen, GA where my parents still live, but I call Statesboro my home. My husband, Thomas Borck is also a teacher at William James in a 7th grade math position. I have two awesome little girls, an eight year old and a five year old who keep me busy. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, spending time with family, and settling down with a great book.

This past school year brought such wonderful gifts to me. I was selected as Media Specialist of the Year for Bulloch County and for the Coastal Region of Georgia. In addition, I was honored to be chosen as Teacher of the Year for WJMS. In September I was awarded a $700 mini-grant to help fund my book club, which provides free books for members to read. In addition, I was honored by Office Max in their “A Day Made Better” event in which I received $1,000 worth of classroom supplies. This generous donation included a digital camera, an office chair, a case of paper, an electronic labeling system, a bulletin board, planners, notebooks, pens, pencils, and many other school supplies which were shared with faculty.

I am from Savannah so I am a GA girl also. I am going to be a new elementary media specialist this year in Loganville, GA and currently have a free Weebly site but was thinking about WordPress. Did you choose this blog over the other blog sites for a reason? I want something where elementary students do not have to sign up for a Google account like with Blogger. Please respond or e-mail me.

  Thanks so much for visiting my site. I took a class in January where we were able to create blogs. This blog is the result. The instructor suggested wordpress because he felt it was the most user friendly. I must say that I love it. I administer our school’s website too but blogs seem to be much more applicable for my needs. I have used Weebly too for showing kids how to create web pages. http://dborck.wordpress.com/2009/05/27/designing-student-webpages/
  Weebly also has an option to add a blog as one of your pages so you may could go that route. Go to the add pages tab and you can add a blog page. I would be glad to help with any questions as you begin working as a media specialist this year and good luck!
